Travel preparations and recess activities

There are four of us who were chosen to continue the school co-operation in Mwanza. We have established the first connections by meeting the Mwanzan delegation during their staying in Tampere. It was very nice to meet them! We all share an  enormous enthusiasm and eagerness to meet the people and to work in Mwanzan schools. We feel great gratitude  for this opportunity and adventure ahead of us.

Tarja Peltola from Tevella Oy is looking for the suitable recess equipments.
Arrangements for the travel are underway, both in personal matters as well as in the professional plannings. In spite of our previous travel experience, we have much to prepare for in this kind of a long assignment  abroad. Among with many other things, we have  collected some recess equipment to the five schools we will work in. Tevella Oy is a family business from Tampere. They wanted to take a part too: Tevella donated some technique footballs, playing scarfs, rubbery throwing balls etc. to give to children in those five Mwanzan schools.

The Atala school is my own school here in Tampere. My pupils are thrilled about the idea that their teacher will work in Africa for a month. One of the things they wanted me to bring back as a souvenir to them from Mwanza is a new game or a play for recesses. As an exchange, they wanted to tell some of their activities: football is thet favorite recess activity in Atala, and both girls and boys are playing football -- mostly together. Various ball games, jumping with skipping ropes, hopscotch and hide and seek games are also popular. Youngest kids are often playing with all stuff they collect from the yard: sticks, sand, rocks, cones... Imagination is the best tool in playing!
